June 2023 Reading Recap

The year is halfway over, I’ve read so many books and yet not enough, and I am tired. I am achieving my goals, exhausting my bones, and shooooooo. June 2023 was a weird month, because I basically lost an entire week of reading with DAR’s Continental Congress. Oh, I did a lot of reading—but not of books, haha. I had spurts of really intense reading throughout the month, luckily, and so I came in at 68 books read for the month, including picture books, prose novels, etc etc.

Here’s a select breakdown:

  • Total Books Read: 68
  • Books DNF’d: 5
  • Graphic Novels Read: 5
  • Books Read for Capitol Choices: 9

I’ll be honest, the state of panic reading I’m in right now can probably be tied to how little reading for my award committee I did in June. Or like, of any fiction. Oops! I was waiting for some titles to come in, I DNF’d a few, and frankly, I just prioritized getting ahead in blog writing and catching up on Kid Lit reading.

Also, SOMEHOW (I know how) I slipped in my reading goals. I didn’t read a short story collection in June, and the only audiobook I listened to was one I DNF’d after like an hour. Oh well. There were other months this year where I read multiple short story collections, so I’m not beating myself up too bad, but I do need to get back to audiobooks if I want to uh…not die in a reading pile this fall.

It’s fine, but I’m a little disgruntled with myself. I need to be more focused this month on the reading that actually matters and isn’t just content for my blog, lol.

The good news is that I’m doing GREAT at tracking my reading…which is how I know when I’m falling behind on certain goals.

So….see you in August! Hopefully with LESS books read but more important/longer books read. Picture book biographies are great, but they can’t dominate all my reading time.
