5 Books I’m Excited for (August 2023)

August is just around the corner! My award season ends in just a few short months, and I’m already dreaming of the pleasure reading I’m going to do when it’s done! All five of these titles are at the top of that list!

The Infinity Particle by Wendy Xu

I LOVE Xu’s work–it’s so nuanced and intense in the right ways, and I love getting lost in a good graphic novel. This one seems like a good mix of traditional graphic novel with a sci-fi element, so I’ll be sure to save it for a dark and stormy night!

Two Tribes by Emily Bowen Cohen

More graphic novels! Native graphic novels! Can’t wait to dive into this one and then recommend it to all the voracious graphic novel readers at my library. This is the first graphic novel by Heartdrum, and based on the author’s own experiences, and coupled with the illustration style I’ve seen in the previews, I’m already sold.

Kissing Kosher by Jean Meltzer

I read The Matzah Ball in 2021 and have not stopped talking about it since. I love genuine rom-com novels, and Meltzer’s ability to infuse Jewish culture with the sassy writing and a quirky plot is perfect for me.

Learned by Heart by Emma Donoghue

BOARDING SCHOOLS! Sapphic historical romance! I am squealing. I think we all trust Emma Donoghue at this point, and now I’m fancasting Florence Pugh in every single thing she writes.

The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter

The second this was announced I screamed. I LOVED The Gallagher Girls as a teen, and Ally Carter’s work is just genuinely fun. I’m not sure how I feel about growing up WITH her work, and now being the adult reader that I am, but excited to see where this spy-romance book takes me.

What books are you most excited about that are publishing in August 2023?
