7 Books I’m Excited for (November 2023)

The year is almost over, and there are still a lot of great books coming out this year that I haven’t gotten my hands on yet. Now that my award committee is winding down, I have a lot more flexibility in what I read, but also so much catching up to do!

The Manor House by Gilly McMillan

I’m in the Manor House DAR chapter, so yes, that’s largely why this book caught my eye, but McMillan also has some good domestic thrillers under her belt, and I MISS reading domestic thrillers, and place-based mysteries. A lottery win leads a couple to a new house and of course, catastrophe ensues. I can’t wait to see how this one unfolds.

Day by Michael Cunningham

I know nothing about this book yet, but I love Cunningham, adored the class I took with him in college, and can’t wait to attend his author talk at Politics and Prose later this month.

Just Lizzie by Karen Wilfrid

In doing reader’s advisory, I often get asked for asexual representation in literature, and so when I saw this one, I immediately bookmarked it. It’s middle grade fiction, about asexuality and discovery through what seems like a class project and I’m excited to read it…eventually.

The Fiction Writer by Jillian Cantor

So I kid you not, I started to read an ARC of this while on my Rebecca pilgrimage in August, knowing nothing about this title, so consider me spooked. I don’t think I’ve read Cantor before, but anything with a Daphne Du Maurier tie-in, and what looks like a place-based mystery with ghost writing, I’m in!

Dolls of Our Lives: Why We Can’t Quit American Girl by Mary Mahoney and Allison Horrocks

I was too poor growing up to have a real American Girl doll, but I read the books, I watched the movies, and I’m still fascinated by the lore, so I’m going to get this one on audiobook ASAP!

The Apartment House on Poppy Hill by Nina LaCour, illustrated by Sonia Albert

Love a good Eloise-comp title, love a good short chapter book, and this is available via audio from PRH, so it’s going to actually get read in November, I promise!

What books are you looking forward to reading in November?
