4 Books I’m Excited For (Dec 2023)

I can’t believe we are in the last month of the year! Publishing slows down the last month of the year, and thank God, honestly. We have a few titles coming out this month I’m looking forward to. Let’s break those down.

The Gentleman’s Gambit by Evie Dunmore

I haven’t read the last one in this series yes, but I remember loving the first two. These are historical fiction rom-coms basically, usually with a slightly saucy element. They all stand alone but are in the same universe. This was is about an introverted suffragist falling for a colleague while at Oxford, and you know I love a good boarding school/school story, so I’m sold.

Mercy Watson is Missing by Kate DiCamillo

The Mercy Watson chapter books are some of my favorites for early elementary readers and reading aloud! They’re fun, engaging, and like with Gambit, stand alone but in the same universe, so there’s a reason to keep coming back. In this one, Mercy Watson goes…you guessed it, missing, and I’m excited to see what this one holds, especially on audio!

She Persisted: Opal Lee by Sheila Moses

I love love love the She Persisted chapter books. I read the Opal Lee one a few months back, but am excited for more people to have access to it, because she’s a fascinating figure from history, and her story deserves to be told. Adding this to “buy for your school library” lists ASAP!

The Fairytale Life of Dorothy Gale by Virginia Kantra

Virginia Kantra wrote a modern duology retelling of Little Women a few years back, and I liked them well enough, so I’m excited to see what she does with the Wizard of Oz on this one! It features the protagonist going to a writing program in Ireland, fall out from an academic affair scandal, and I’m sure it’s going to be cheesy, but I’m putting it on hold at the library nonetheless.

What books are you excited about that are releasing in December 2023? My “Most Anticipated 2024” titles blog is coming soon.
