7 Books I’m Excited For (September 2024)

September is an insane publishing month every year, and this one is no different! Here are my most anticipated titles!

Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

I’m seated, I’m waiting, and I’m ready to read. Sally Rooney’s three previous books all emotionally wrecked me, and I know this one isn’t billed as romantic trauma, but I’ve already got my box of tissues.

Pick the Lock by A.S. King

Victorian mansion homeschools and pneumatic tubes? I’m intrigued, and I’m ready to read! A.S. King is such a strange writer–she can truly take on anything and trap a reader.

Playground by Richard Powers

I devoured Bewilderment and cannot wait to dive into Playground, his new adult title, especially since I’m hardly ready any adult fiction this year!

The Hysterical Girls of St. Bernadette’s by Hanna Alkaf

Come on, doesn’t this title grab you? It’s dark academia with a bout of hysteria and I am ready!

Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio

It’s a novella, but I’m not mad, because I love a quick read. I was a huge fan of If We Were Villains, and while I wait for more Donna Tartt, I will take a new dose of M.L. Rio.

Black Star by Kwame Alexander

Love a novel in verse, love a sequel I actually remember is coming out, and cannot wait to see what Kwame does with this next installment!

Making the Presidency by Lindsay M. Chervinsky

I loved her book on Washington’s Cabinet, and I love supporting fellow DAR members writing about the early years of our country.
