HOW is it already October? How am I drowning in backlist titles and still somehow thinking about upcoming releases? Because I’m crazy…and I love reading…and I cannot wait to read these seven books in particular, even if it probaby won’t be this month.
White House Clubhouse: White House on Fire by Sean O’Brien
Not going to lie..I ddn’t love how the first book in the series took place mostly outside of the White House…but I am a Daughter of 1812 and am still going to give this one a chance because middle grade novels capturing famous historical moments? I’m in.
The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science by Kate McKinnon
I saw the cover of this at ALA Annual and almost screamed. I cannot wait to see what she does with her debut middle grade novel-I know it’ll be hilarious.
Twenty Four Seconds From Now…by Jason Reynolds
A new Jason Reynolds novel? I’m sold, you don’t have to tell me anything else. I don’t know if this one is in verse, but I hope so because I need Jason’s pulsing verse as this story unfolds. Either way though, I’m reading.
Curdle Creek by Yvonne Battle-Felton
This book is pitched as The Lottery meets the Hunger Games with a hint of time travel, and I hope it hits some lists because I want to DISCUSS this with people, you know?
Heir by Sabaa Tahir
Picked up this hefty ARC at ALA Annual, and am going to commit to reading it and giving epic fantasy a chance in my reading life. I feel like the vibes I get from her books are a bit darker without being uh…smokier, if you know what I mean. A little death and destruction, but still YA. Like Aveyard, but better?
Libby Lost and Found by Stephanie Booth
This book, even though it’s adult fic and probably going to be saccharine, seems really cute and I want to love it. It’s about an author and her young fan and writing and learning so…we’ll see.
The Bletchley Riddle by Ruta Septys and Steve Sheinken
Cannot wait to see what these two get up to with such a cool moment in history. I love Ruta’s books, and she writes so propulsively!
