Have I been good about writing on this blog? I have not. Is it because I’ve been so busy reading? Only slightly…
March 2026 is over, we are a quarter of the way through 2026, and according to Goodreads, I am approximately 25% of the way through my goal of reading 250 books this year. They also say I’m 3 books behind schedule but…we’ll see if we can catch up, haha.
March began what I can only describe as an incredibly stressful time that I do not anticipate ending until this summer, so the fact that I got any reading done on top of conferences and projects and deadlines is impressive, I tell myself quietly.
During the month of March, I read or finished 18 books. Let’s recap:
3 Dragon Master Books
I am now caught up on the Dragon Masters series, and awaiting books 31, 32, and probably 33 coming out this summer and fall.
2 Books I Was Reading with School Book Clubs
In March, two of my book clubs finished their read-alouds of Andrew Clements’ No Talking and Binder of Doom: Brute-Cake. I’m still in the middle of a few other read alouds that should be finished in early April.
2 Adult Book Club Books
I had already read the book for my DAR book club this month, so I just had to read Repentance by Eloisa Diaz for a virtual alumni book club, and Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders for the East City Bookshop book club. I read both, but ended up not making it to the Lincoln in the Bardo in-person discussion. I have 3 book club books to read in April–Bartleby the Scrivener for alumni group, Moderation for East City, and Serviceberry for a DCDAR State Book Club. My DAR chapter does a poetry sharing event for our April book club each year.
1 Middle Grade Book for A Booklist Review
The other book I had to review for the month I finished in early April, oops.
5 Physical Books I’d Had For Too Long
In an attempt to get rid of books, I’m trying to prioritize reading what I own. This month, that included 2 BOTM books–One Star Romance and Immortal Consequences, one YA novel that I half listened to half read (The Family Romanov) and two middle grade books Secrets of the Lost Cave and Splinter & Ash. All were pretty solid reads.
2 Shorter Audiobooks
I love treatig the Who Was Books like podcast episodes. I listened to Who Was Pope Francis? and also The Only Ghost at Summer Camp.
And some others…
I read an Earl & Worm book aloud for one of my sub plans, and a new Branches series (Sports Zone) that were both good. My students really enjoyed the Earl & Worm book, so I will probably use the third one for my sub plans later this month.

Overall, it wasn’t a great month for my reading. It was fine, but I want to do better in April. With Spring Break AND another trip on my calendar in April, I’m shooting for THIRTY books. It’ll be hard, but I think it’s doable. I did a good job clearing some books off my physical shelves this month—but as I write this, I’m currently reading an ARC on my Kindle. It’ll be interesting to try and balance physical books and my backlog with all the exciting books I’m looking forward to that I have as ARCs on my Kindle.
What was the best book you read in March? My favorite this month was probably One Star Romance by Laura Hankin.
