I’ve decided to be really intentional about my reading in July because I’m planning to start grad school and move and start working full time in August if not sooner and I really should be on top of my crap by then. So here I am, putting my six biggest book goals for July out into the world so that you can hold me accountable and hopefully inspire me by sharing your own book goals for the month (or the year!)
As you might or might not know, I set some book goals into motion when I made my list of 100 things I’m going to do this year and I’ve yet to accomplish more than half of them, so some of those are built into these goals!
Here we go!
- Read a book by Stephen King
This was one of my 100 goals of the year and I just need to bite the bullet and get it over with. The only Stephen King book I’ve ever read is 11/22/63. I’m not trying to read like super horror though, so I’ll probably read either Misery or On Writing. I have both of those in paperback and they’re screaming at me to read them so I can cross them off the list once and for all.
2. Read Ka: Dar Oakley in the Ruin of Ymr by John Crowley
Another of my goals was to read a book by one of my professors, and Crowley was not only my professor for my utopia class but also my advisor for my senior project. I’ve got a hardcover copy of Ka and I’ve heard him read from it TWICE and it’s so beautifully written but I just haven’t gotten around to reading it. I’m going to this month. Or I’ll read something by Michael Cunningham that isn’t The Hours because that would also count. So we’ll see.
3. Finish reading everything currently written by Kasie West
Yes, I know she probably has another book coming out later this year but currently the only books I haven’t read by Kasie West that are out in the world are Pivot Point and Split Second, her early duology. I have the books from my public library. They are sitting on my dining room table. I’m going to read them finally dang it, and cross this task off my big list!
4. Read at least one Kindle book I actually bought
I’m super guilty of buying Kindle books when they are on sale for $1.99 and then never reading them. In my defense, I stock-piled a bunch a few months ago thinking I was going abroad and going to just take my Kindle, but that hasn’t come to fruition yet, so I need to get a move on. Some of the options for this challenge include: History is All You Left Me, They Both Die at the End, Ace of Shades, Romancing the Throne, Long May She Reign, Song of Achilles, Tips for Living, Time Bomb, Meet Cute, Dear Martin, and How to Hang a Witch. If you feel strongly about any of these options, PLEASE LET ME KNOW in the comments. I need guidance to finally do this.
5. Read at least 6 of the ARCS I have
I am the worst at going to the public library and picking out books I’ve never even cared about before instead of reading the plethora of ARCS I have sitting on my shelves or in my Kindle. So this month, I’m going to restrict my library trips and make headway through my arcs. I have three more July ARCS I haven’t read yet: What to Read and Why, From the Corner of the Oval, and Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win. Also, I want to go ahead and read What if It’s Us, Sadie, and the Opposite of Innocent, which come out this fall. I also need to read and review the Jim Mattis biography that comes out in August for FFL.
6. Listen to 2 of the audiobooks I paid for
Again, guilty as charged for downloading free audiobooks on Hoopla or Overdrive and forgetting the ones I paid money for on iBooks or Audible. My options for this challenge are as follows: Mind Hunter, The Visitors, All the Missing Girls, Save the Date, The Refugees, or Wolf of Wall Street. I’m leaning towards the Visitors because I don’t have that many other psychological thrillers/mysteries lined up this month. I really do prefer my audiobooks to be nonfiction though (I don’t know why) so maybe I should just stop buying fiction audiobooks and save myself the trouble. The second…up to you.
What are your bookish goals for July? Got any recommendations for my audio or Kindle read this month? Please let me know!
