Okay, so Owlcrate’s August Theme was announced and IT IS….
Here’s the blurb:
Would you survive if you were thrust into a devious royal court? Our August box is all about royals who rule and win; no matter the cost. Our book pick is an intense story about two sisters who are thrown into a world of court politics, brutal competition and fierce rulers. When they are separated from one another, each girl must figure out unique ways to survive. We will be including an incredible exclusive edition of the book (very different from the original), which is signed by the author! There will also be beautiful items inspired by The Belles, Throne of Glass, Disney and more! There is also a special item inspired by The Cruel Prince that we know you guys are going to freak out over! It’s gorgeous, and something we’ve never included before. If you love intriguing fantasy stories set in dark palaces, this is the box for you!
I won’t spoil it here, but I’m almost positive I know what the book is. I also follow @book.alley on Instagram and they provide guesses for most of the popular book boxes so that’s a great option, along with Book Box Sherlocks on FB. I hate the 300 people that want one single person to “DM THEM THEIR GUESS” like do your own dang work. It’s not that hard. Anyway. I digress.
I love playing the guessing game where I try and guess what the next Owlcrate book will be. Keeping in mind that Owlcrate doesn’t do sequels (except their special box for Vengeful) here are my wishes/guesses for the upcoming seven months of Owlcrate boxes!
September–People Kill People by Ellen Hopkins
I know it’s a long-shot because Hopkins’s books are DARK and WEIGHTY and Owlcrate usually isn’t. But they’re never done a book in verse and they’re so beautifully done by Ellen Hopkins. It’s a really timely book and I think it’ll be great. but, what would the theme be? Resistance maybe? Fighting back or raising awareness? It certainly wouldn’t just be “guns”
October–What if It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
There are SO may good books coming out in October, but I know that Korrina loves Becky Albertalli and Love Simon was such a popular movie, so I think this is a good bet. A fun theme would be Broadway or NYC since they are such strong parts of the story. If they don’t do What If It’s Us they might do A Very Wide Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi.
November–The Lying Woods by Ashley Elston
Hot take: Owlcrate should do more mysteries. Also, I love books set at boarding school more than I probably should. This would be such a fun book and very different from what they usually do! They could do a woods theme or a boarding school theme or a liars theme I don’t know but I want it.
December—The Kiss Collector by Wendy Higgins
I’m going to be completely honest. Not a lot of standalones/debuts/first in a series are on my radar for December so far, so I’m picking this one because it seems Owlcrate-esque and I have no better options. It would be a fun romance to round out the year.
January–The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Choski
Owlcrate Jr did Choski’s other book Aru Shah and Gilded Wolves is getting a lot of press so it’s a good bet they’ll do it! Would also be a strong way to start off the year.
I also think, based on the hoopla over the special Vengeful box, they’ll do a special box for the Cruel Prince’s sequel, The Wicked King. Mark it now.
February–The Cerulean by Amy Ewing
Maybe another pipe dream, but this book is SO GOOD and so unique in many ways and has a lot of great things in it to pull out. Plus, it’s the beginning of a series by a proven author and it’s going to be a duology instead of a dang trilogy like every other fantasy series. It’s sapphic and utopian and has a PT Barnum character and isn’t a romance and I love it.
March–Heroine by Mindy McGinnis
Okay, this might be another hard-pass for Owlcrate because it’s such a dark book, but everyone raves about McGinnis’s last book The Female of the Species and this book is extremely timely and while I haven’t gotten to my eARC of this yet I’m excited to!
What books do you want to see in upcoming Owlcrate boxes? Are there any items or fandoms you want represented?
