Whiskey in a Teacup

Reese Witherspoon’s first book is finally out in the world and it’s not exactly what you would expect. It’s a southern lifestyle book complete with recipes, outfit suggestions, lists of book recommendations, and anecdotes about her childhood. It’s not the celebrity memoir we deserve from Witherspoon but it’s a cute look at her life off-screen.

Whiskey in a Teacup is pretty short. The audiobook was just over 2 hours in length, but it was narrated by Witherspoon herself which was nice.  The majority of the book is anecdotal chapters about southern life, from style to etiquette  to party planning, book clubs, and more.  It’s fun to hear about Witherspoon’s childhood and her life in Nashville where she lives when she’s not on-screen winning Oscars and such.

If you like reading lifestyle books about cooking, being Southern preppy, being a good hostess and giving good gifts with lots of monograms, this is the book for you. For the record, Legally Blonde is not mentioned a single time in the entire book, which is frankly disheartening. This isn’t a book where Witherspoon talks about how she made her career in Hollywood or how she balances work and family or anything like that. It’s all about how being Southern has impacted her upbringing and made her who she is as a wife and mother.

I used an Audible credit on this book, so I don’t exactly regret spending money on this book, but I don’t think this book is the best bang for your buck. It’ll make a great coffee table book though, and I can’t wait until Reese Witherspoon writes a full-fledged celebrity memoir.
