The Vanishing Stair

After nearly a year of waiting for the sequel to Truly Devious, it finally arrived in my Audible library.  I don’t always like fiction on audio, but I liked Truly Devious that way, so I gave the Vanishing Stair a chance. It picks up right after the end of Truly Devious: one student is dead, another is missing, and Stevie’s no closer to figuring out who kidnapped the Ellingham’s back in the 1930s.

The Vanishing Stair begins with Stevie back at home in Pennsylvania, pulled out of Ellingham by her parents because of the, you know, death of a student that might have been a murder. But she’s given a special chance to go back with an unlikely ally–only there are strings attached. When she gets back, she’s given a new chance to dive into the Truly Devious kidnappings–through an internship with a local professor who literally wrote the book on the case. And with what Stevie found in a classmate’s room before she went missing…she might have a chance to actually solve this thing. But at what cost?

I didn’t like this book as much as the first one, but second books in a trilogy often have that issue. I’m excited to see how the third book wraps up Stevie’s life at Ellingham now that we kind of know what happened to Iris and Alice. What will happen with David? Will we ever truly understand what happened to Hayes? And what the heck is up with Fenton? I need more information!

We don’t have a title or cover or release date for the third and final book in the trilogy, but it’ll probably come out early 2020.
