Alright, so another “oh crap thanks corona” movie blog here. I loved Artemis Fowl growing up. He was sassy, Butler was amazing, it was a unique take on fairies and fantasy, and it was like reading a spy novel for kids. And so I was so excited for Artemis Fowl to become a film…and then the wait began. The movie, by Disney of course, got pushed back multiple times, and as of the writing of this article in April, the movie is set to premier on Disney+ on June 12th!
Twelve-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl has discovered a world below ground of armed and dangerous–and extremely high-tech–fairies. He kidnaps one of them, Holly Short, and holds her for ransom in an effort to restore his family’s fortune. But he may have underestimated the fairies’ powers. Is he about to trigger a cross-species war?
Such a fascinating book series, TBH, and it’s not too late to read it! They’ve also been adapted to graphic novels. I haven’t read the spin-off series about the twins (spoilers? lol) but now that I have to wait even longer for the film, maybe I should.
Now, onto the movie.
Here’s the trailer:
Now, part of the allure was that this seemed like a good film! IT HAS JUDI DENCH. It is directed by Kenneth freaking Branagh. Like, come on. Don’t let this die in the vault. The guy playing Butler is freaking jacked. I want to see this! I want to watch it in theatres. Thanks,Corona. Sure, it doesn’t look like a PERFECT book adaptation, but that’s fine. I’m willing to take it. I’ve waited this long.
