Books at the Box Office: Gone Girl

I am pretty good at handling awkward situations, but I’ll admit that one of the weirdest moments of my life was surviving the Gone Girl oral scene in a movie theatre with my grandparents. In my defense, they wanted to see the movie! And it was my freshmen year of college and they were visiting for family weekend, so I went along,but luckily, seeing the movie not only gave me a new favorite movie (is it weird to call it a comfort movie?) and inspired me to read the book, introducing me to Gillian Flynn as an author who I’ve now read everything by.

Speaking of that…when is she going to publish a new book? I’m itching for it.

First, let’s talk the Book. From Amazon:

This book is good, okay? I think Flynn is an excellent writer, I enjoyed her other books, and this was a boo I didn’t want to put down!Seriously, if you haven’t read it and you like thrillers and suspense, pick it up now!

Now, the movie:

This movie stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike and like…she was NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR FOR THIS. That’s how intense it is, okay? Also Neil Patrick Harris playing a straight man, with a nude scene, holy weird. Oh, and Tyler Perry as the lawyer. And the girl from the Robin Thicke Blurred Lines video. It’s so good. So good. Soooo good. It’s also a good adaptation because Gillian Flynn herself did the screenplay.

This movie has, weirdly enough, become a comfort movie for me. Weird, I know. But I always know I’ll like watching it when I can’t decide what to watch. I make people watch it all the time and my roommate was terrified the first time, but then he wanted to see it again! Big moves! Also, all three of her novels have been adapted to the screen, so go Gillian!
