A few nights ago, there was a scream heard around the world. It was me, aghast that once agains the Jonas Brothers’ memoir had been delayed. Originally scheduled for November 2019, it then got moved to March 2020, and then October 2020.
On the 6th, the Jonas Brothers tweeted this:
That makes it sound like it’s just getting pushed back, right?
Well…maybe. But the reality doesn’t look good.
The Amazon page devoted to this has disappeared. I clicked from the Macmillan page itself and from my pre-order. I saw someone else’s Audible pre-order got cancelled.
Then…I went to Edelweiss, which, if you don’t know, is a pretty great resource. As a librarian, I view publisher’s catalogs a few seasons in advance to keep an eye on what’s coming. And before conspiracy doubters slide in–the catalog is updated BY THE PUBLISHER.
And well…this is what I saw
That’s right…CANCELLED
I have reached out to the publisher but they had not gotten back to me. I’ll update this ASAP if they do.
But this could mean a few things.
It could mean that the book was never turned in by the authors (the brothers and Strauss) and there was a dispute about deadlines and therefore they’re “cancelling” this book but it might come out in 2-3 years. There could have been a falling out between Strauss and the brothers. There could have been a fight among the brothers about the book. Could be dissatisfaction with the publisher about the content. Literally a ton of options, but we’ll see what else gets said.
But books like this don’t get cancelled overnight, and for no good reason, so I cannot wait to hear more about what’s going on. But as someone who was over the moon when it was announced and pre-ordered it THAT DAY, I’m disappointed, to say the least.
