It’s that time of the week again! Time to talk about what in pop culture is making me happy–and yet I’m drowning in CRAP and stuff to do and not watching much TV so I’m going to talk about what I’ve got: rewatches.
Yes, once again, I’m rewatching my comfort films, but this week I want to talk about the JOY I feel watching someone watch Gone Girl with the first time. I’ve introduced at least six people to this movie, and everyone’s reaction is slightly different and yet bonkers at the same time.
The first time I showed my roommate the movie, which he picked out from my selection, he turned to me at the “twist” and exclaimed, “This isn’t anything like Gone with the Wind.”
He was not wrong.
This week, I introduced a guy to the movie for the first time, and while I was loading it into the DVD player, he said, “Is this the one that’s like Avatar?” He meant the blue people movie. I said no, but I’m still confused about what movie he meant.
Anyway, the joy of watching him watch Gone Girl with the first time was like getting high–I felt so alive, and it was so much fun! Honestly, the most fun I’ve had this week.
AND THEN, he guessed the twist about four scenes before it happened, and I thought to myself, “Oh no, I think I love this man.” I was SO IMPRESSED. But it didn’t take away from his enjoying the movie, or me enjoying him enjoying it.
Basically–find a favorite movie, and make it your passion to watch people watch it for the first time.
You’ll feel joy, and it’s like an act of service!
