What’s Making Me Happy: May 14th, 2021

Hello! The week is OVER and for that I am grateful. The existence of Friday alone is enough to make me happy, but on Thursday, I gave into the peer pressure of Dana Schwartz’s Twitter and NPR and made an account with Peacock and watched the 1st episode of Girls5Eva.

Now, I’m laughing and looking forward to the other episodes. Wow!

This is one of this Tina Fey-brainchildren sitcoms that’s got a lot of good jokes, funny mini-songs, and a stellar cast. The 5 girls in Girls5Eva are Sara Bareilles, Renee Elise Goldsberry,Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, and Ashley Park. Stacked, and the flashbacks to the early 2000s fashion is really cringy-funny.

I also love that the main 3–so it seems–Renee, Sara, and Busy–play the characters 20 years ago and now, and it WORKS in the best cringe-ways. I think it’s also going to offer commentary on the terrible things we made girls sing in girl groups. And Sara Bareilles writing them a song? Ok….I’m ready.

I was born in 1995, so I’m not going to pretend like I was around for the best parts of the 2000s this show is mocking, but it all rings a bell so I’m enjoying myself.

I can’t wait to see what else the series holds!
