I don’t always write formal blog reviews of the Kid Lit I read, but maybe today we are changing that! In ONE morning, I listened to the newest Erin Entrada Kelly book–a cute chapter book called Maybe Maybe Marisol Rainey. Perfect for emerging chapter book readers or to read with a family, this diverse book follows Marisol-a young girl–as she faces off against her nemesis: The tree in her backyard. There’s sibling arguments, the culture of her parents, especially her Filipino mom, school drama, a cat named Beans, and I think fans of Elana K Arnold will enjoy this title!
Personally, I thought this book was fine. Nothing spectacular, but not bad. I listened to the audiobook–good narrator–so I can’t attest to the illustrations, but I’m sure they were fun, because Kelly is very talented. While I don’t think this is going to win any awards, I would definitely suggest this to early elementary readers and to parents looking for a chapter book to read with their kids.
Maybe Maybe Marisol Rainey by Erin Entrada Kelly is available wherever books are sold.
