7 Books I’m Excited For (April 2024)

How is April already upon us? We thought January would never end, and now somehow we are here. There are some great books coming out this month, and some good ones too, and here are seven that I’m excited for!

The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo

Despite being like three books behind in the Bardugo-verse, I always eagerly anticipate her new releases! The blurbs for this historical fantasy kind of remind me of a darker, more intense Enchantee by Gita Trelease, so I’m sold!

The House on Biscayne Bay by Chanel Cleeton

Chanel Cleeton is one of those authors I rarely think of on the day to day, but whenever I pick up one of her books, I am immediately hooked and fly through them. She’s a greater, propulsive writer for her genres, so I’m excited to see how this darker tale unfolds. It seems she’s trying to step out of historical fiction and more into the Hoover-esque space with some of her other upcoming titles…which makes me skeptical, but I am hopeful this historical piece is true to her form!

The Cats of Silver Crescent by Kaela Noel

A middle grade standalone promising talking cats? Count me in. I haven’t read this author before, but it promises to be a nice magical little tale full of cats!

The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson

I LOVE Holly Jackson’s books, and cannot wait to read this one! While I am not pre-ordering books for MYSELF this year, I did pre-order it for two tweens I work with in C.A.R. who loved a Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, so I cannot wait to put this one in their hands!

Katie, Batter Up by Coco Simon

I’m unapologetically into the Cupcake Diaries graphic novels, even though I never read the chapter books. The next one promises to be as equally fun of a read for fans of elementary and middle grade graphic novels

The Lillies by Quinn Diacon-Franco

This queer dark academia YA thriller promises to be perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying but with a Groundhog’s Day twist, so color me curious. The cover is gorgeous!

American Daughters by Piper Huguley

We love a good DC/White House historical fiction tale! This one follows the daughters of FDR and Booker T. Washington, which reminds me of First Ladies by Victoria Christopher Murray and Marie Benedict, which my book club read in January 2024. Putting this on book club radars now!
